Maracatu Luta

Maracatú Luta is a Bay Area percussion ensemble that specializes in the cultural traditions from the state of Pernambuco in the north-east of Brazil, in particular, maracatú, a processional style of music and dance with deep roots and infectious rhythms. Maracatu Luta is comprised of the members of the Bateria Lucha community that are most passionate about maracatú. Building on years of experience studying and performing this amazing cultural tradition, we want to share more of it with the Bay Area and beyond. We launched this new project at a sold-out performance at the Great American Music Hall on Saturday, March 29th, which was a fantastic experience.
