The Gear Fund
Bateria Lucha owes Derek money. The amount keeps changing – Derek spends quite a bit to maintain the drums, drum heads, mallets, straps, etc. that most of us use. We don’t want to formally charge dues, but if we could informally collect money to pay Derek back, it would be very helpful. Here’s how it works – I ask for $5 from each of you whenever we rehearse. (I’m counting Friday night class at MCC as a rehearsal.) If you don’t have it, that’s fine. If you have more, that’s even more fine. I keep track of what we’ve got, and I give Derek the money. In the unlikely event that we ever collect more money than we owe Derek, we can use the gear fund to buy some drums, costumes, beer, or whatever we decide at the time.
This is separate from the money we are collecting at Maracatu Cazadero workshops; that’s for Carnaval expenses only. And if you only use your own gear, don’t worry about it, and forgive me if I forget and ask you for money.
Please don’t give me money at a performance, when I’ve got other things to deal with, and don’t give the money directly to Derek. If I’m not around, and you’re dying to contribute, ask Derek if someone is collecting, or just hang onto it until you see me.
Thanks.
Malaika
