(event) Intro maracatú workshop @ 2509 Myrtle Start: 7:00 pm End: 9:00 pm Description: Maracatú is a processional style of music and dance from the state of Pernambuco in the northeast of Brazil. It's got deep roots and infectious, joyous rhythms. You'll learn alfaia (the bass drum at the heart of maracatú), caixia (snare), gongué (bell), abé (shekere), body percussion, songs, stretches, and more. This is a class for all levels -- no experience is necessary, and instruments will be provided. This workshop is part of the Intro to maracatú: Summer workshop series (2009). $15 drop-in, or $40 for 4 workshops. Place: places/2509_myrtle
