(event) Maracatu workshop @ 2509 Myrtle Start: 7:00 pm End: 8:30 pm Description: Celebrate John Coltrane's birthday by learning and playing some great music! Maracatú is a processional style of music and dance from the state of Pernambuco in the northeast of Brazil. It's got deep roots and infectious, joyous rhythms. You'll learn alfaia (the bass drum at the heart of maracatú), caixia (snare), gongué (bell), abé (shekere), body percussion, songs, stretches, and more. This is a beginner's class -- no experience is necessary, and instruments will be provided. $15 drop-in, or $40 for a card valid for 4 workshops. Place: places/2509_myrtle
