Come to this special workshop with guest instructor Gabriel Damasceno, who has paraded in Rio's famous Mangueira samba school for four Carnavals and has a wealth of knowledge about Carnaval in Brazil.

The workshop will be a caixa intensive focused on Mangueira's unique style, plus a review of 4 decades of samba enredos and history of the escola.

Many of you know Gabe from Brazil Camp, where he has taught caixa during the past couple years and made it both fun and productive. He has a great deal of experience, playing skills, and enthusiasm to share with all of us, so don't miss this special class.

Players of all levels are welcome. Bring your caixa; we may have a few spares to share for the class. Audio recording is welcome. $20 for the workshop.

Following the caixa workshop, there will be a samba dance class from 7:00 to 8:30 conducted by Grupo Samba Rio dance director Cevie Toure, and participants in the drum workshop are invited to stay to play for the dance class as well--bring other drums along!
