Regular Bateria Lucha workshop where you'll learn maracatu, afoxe/ijexa, and other rhythms from Brazil (especially the north-eastern state of Pernambuco).
The first hour is a "beginning" class open to all levels (though more experienced participants are always invited to come work on instruments they don't usually play, and/or to help teach newer people). The second hour is an intermediate/advanced workshop (everyone is welcome to stay and watch, but active participation is by invitation).
$12 for the entire workshop. No one turned away for lack of funds.

Weekly gathering of Jorge Alabe 's Grupo Samba Rio samba group. Beginning class from 5-6pm, intermediate/advanced from 6-7:30pm.
Jorge is in Brazil until February, which means Derek and/or Marcel will be leading the workshop.

This week I'm planning to teach an older composition called "flip" for the alfaias. It's a great piece that's heavy on the bass drums and it's a lot of fun. Hope to see you there!

Whoops, I didn't realize Deborah had planned to cancel the workshop on this date, but that's the case. So, the workshop on Sunday December 16th will be the last one of the year. Hope you can make it then. ;)
Not happening
Fellow Luchista and friend, Yari, has invited all interested parties to join him up in Bolinas to spend Christmas day playing music and celebrating. While many of us don't necessarily observe that particular holiday, most of our employers do, so at least almost all of us have the day off. ;) He said we can bring as many instruments as we want, and that volume won't be a problem. It's also a pot luck, so if you can bring something to share, that'd be lovely. Please signup so we know what instruments to bring, and can hopefully coordinate some carpooling, etc.
