To commemorate the Orixa of the ocean, Yemanja; a yearly event on the beach in Santa Cruz, Marisi Oliveira has arranged a festival to bring a little piece of her culture to us. Every year local dance and drum troups lead a procession to a boat holding as many passengers as possible and flowers to offers to Yemanja. Lucha is invited to do the honors this year. There will be some candomble drumming on the beach with some of ..however we want to play it...maracatu and ciranda. Maybe some coco and other stuff for those so inclined before the walk to the harbor. The event goes from 2:30pm to 5:00pm (official time) better a little late than never, so if you can come at all please do. Then we'll have a party at Marisi's house in Santa Cruz.

CIRANDA. The ciranda tune that we will start out with is posted as an MP3 with the lyrics in the Notation section of this site. Please check it out as ciranda is all about song as well as dance. Derek and I will show the drum parts before the date so we're in good shape for the party.
